BSL Shaders 1.20 – 1.8

78
BSL Shaders are a kind of computer program that changes how things look in Minecraft. Minecraft is a game where you can build anything out of blocks. BSL Shaders make the lighting, shadows, water, and sky look more realistic in Minecraft.
What are Shaders?
Shaders are special programs that change how graphics are shown in a game. They make the game look prettier and more realistic. Without shaders, Minecraft has simple lighting and flat colours. With shaders, you get cool effects like waving grass, shining water, and shadows that move.
Shaders have to be installed on a computer to work with Minecraft. The computer needs a strong graphics card to run shaders smoothly. Weaker graphics cards can still use shaders, but the game might be laggy.
Different Kinds of Shaders
There are many kinds of shaders made by different people. Some popular ones include:
  • Sonic Ether’s Unbelievable Shaders (SEUS)
  • BSL Shaders
  • Sildur’s Shaders
  • Chocapic13’s Shaders
Each shader pack has its look and features. BSL Shaders are designed to look realistic while running fast. SEUS shaders have very realistic water and shadows but need a strong computer. Sildur’s shaders are lightweight and good for weaker PCs.
What Does BSL Stand For?
BSL stands for Bump Shadow Light. These are the three key lighting effects that BSL Shaders focus on:
Bump – Makes textures like bricks and cobblestones look bumpy and 3D instead of flat. This uses normal mapping.
Shadow – Realistic shadows that change over time as the sun moves. Soft-edged shadows and darkness under trees/blocks.
Light – Warm lighting from the sun and other light sources. Things look brighter or dimmer based on light level.
So BSL shaders mainly improve the lighting of Minecraft to make everything look more natural and vivid.
BSL Shaders Features
Here are some of the visual effects that BSL Shaders can add to Minecraft:
  • Realistic shadows – Objects cast soft shadows based on sun position. Shadows get softer at dusk and sharper at noon.
  • Light scattering – Sunlight beams through clouds and trees in an atmospheric way.
  • Reflections – Ponds reflect objects like trees and clouds.
  • Waving plants – Leaves and grass move gently in the wind.
  • Wind and rain – During storms, rain falls and plants sway based on wind speed.
  • Water effects – Water reflects, shines with ripples, and flows down slopes.
  • Bumpy textures – Bricks, roads, wood, and more get 3D bump mapping.
These effects make the Minecraft world feel much more alive. The lighting changes realistically as you move around. BSL Shaders can customize lots of the effects in their settings too.
How to Install BSL Shaders
Installing BSL Shaders takes a few steps but isn’t too hard. Here is what you need to do:
  1. Check System Requirements – Make sure your computer and Minecraft version are capable of running BSL shaders. Most modern PCs will be fine.
  2. Download OptiFine – This mod is required for any shader pack. Find the right OptiFine version for your Minecraft version.
  3. Install OptiFine – Open the OptiFine .jar file you downloaded. This will install and enable OptiFine in your Minecraft.
  4. Download BSL Shaders – Go to www.curseforge.com and search for BSL Shaders. Download the latest version.
  5. Put BSL files in the shaderpacks folder – Your .minecraft folder has a “shaderpacks” folder. Put the BSL zip file in there.
  6. Open Minecraft Launcher – Ensure OptiFine is selected from the versions menu. Launch Minecraft normally.
  7. Go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders – Pick the BSL Shaders option here and confirm.
  8. Done! – BSL Shaders should now work when you load into a world. Enjoy the amazing graphics!
Some things to note:
  • Make sure shaderpack is in the correct folder location or Minecraft won’t see it.
  • Re-download BSL Shaders after big Minecraft updates for best compatibility.
  • Adjust shader settings for performance if needed. Lowering some settings will increase fps.
  • Unzip the BSL download instead of leaving it as .zip if having issues.
  • Removing BSL is easy – just delete it from the shaderpacks folder.
